Apprentice Department staffers Ms. Sharon Shea and Joyce Mendelsohn register applicants as they arrived for their scheduled interviews.

On July 30th, the last of 2,155 potential apprentices were interviewed by the Apprentice Training Department of the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry. The selection is for enrollment in the program sponsored by the JIB for the five boroughs of the City of New York.
Of the 2,155 potential apprentices, approximately 800 are anticipated to enter the apprentice program. They will be integrated into the industry over the next three years if employment within the industry permits. It is anticipated 150 will become apprentices in September 2009.
The interview process began on June 22, 2009. Interviews were held Monday through Thursdays throughout June and July from 3pm to 7 pm. Participating as interviewers were volunteer employers and rank-and-file union members selected from the Wage and Policy Committee.
The selection process consists of the initial application, aptitude test, interview and physical. Once all of them are completed, the applicants are graded and the highest ranked applicants will be notified they have been accepted into the program. Acceptance does not mean immediate employment. The last selection process began in September of 2004. 1,164 of the 3,224 applicants of that selection process were accepted into the program with the last of that group beginning work in the summer of 2009.

Over 2,155 applicants for the “A” Apprentice Training Program within the five boroughs of the city of New York, sponsored by the Joint Industry Board of the Electrical Industry were interviewed between June 22 and July 30 at the Electrical Center in Flushing, Queens.
